Allergens Policy

At Kukori Pastry and Bakery, we take food allergies and intolerances seriously.

Our products are handmade in a small home bakery kitchen where ingredients containing different allergens are prepared and handled. While we take reasonable steps to prevent cross-contact, Kukori is not an allergen-free kitchen and we cannot guarantee that any product is completely free from traces of allergens.

This policy explains how we provide allergen information and how we manage allergens when preparing your order.

1. Allergen information

We provide information about the ingredients and regulated allergens present in our products.

The 14 allergens recognised under UK food law are: Cereals containing gluten, such as wheat, rye, barley and oats, Crustaceans, Eggs, Fish, Peanuts, Soybeans, Milk, Nuts, Celery, Mustard, Sesame, Sulphur dioxide and sulphites, Lupin,Molluscs.

Where one of these allergens is intentionally used as an ingredient in a product, it will be identified in the relevant product information.

2. Allergies and intolerances

If you have a food allergy, intolerance or other dietary requirement, please tell us before placing your order.

Do not assume that a product is suitable for you simply because an ingredient is not listed in the product name or description. If you have a severe or medically diagnosed allergy, please contact us before ordering so that we can discuss whether we can safely fulfil your order. We reserve the right to decline an order where we do not believe we can safely meet a particular allergy or dietary requirement.

3. Our kitchen and cross-contact

Kukori operates from a small home kitchen where different ingredients and allergens are handled. Because of the nature of our kitchen and production process, there is a risk of unintentional cross-contact between ingredients. We follow reasonable food-safety and cleaning procedures to minimise the risk of cross-contact, but these procedures cannot guarantee that cross-contact will never occur.

We therefore cannot guarantee that any product is free from traces of allergens.

4. "May contain" and precautionary allergen information

Where appropriate, we may provide precautionary allergen information such as:

May contain traces of [allergen].

This information is intended to communicate a genuine risk of unintended allergen presence. The absence of a "may contain" statement should not be interpreted as a guarantee that the product is free from traces of allergens. Our products are made in a kitchen where multiple allergens may be handled.

6. Supplier and manufactured ingredients

Some of the ingredients we use are manufactured or packaged by third parties. We rely on the ingredient and allergen information supplied by those manufacturers and suppliers. We therefore cannot guarantee that supplier ingredients will remain unchanged over time. Where appropriate, we will check the current product information before preparing an order.

7. Dietary products

We may offer products described as, for example:

1. vegetarian;
2. vegan;
3. dairy-free;
4. gluten-free; or
5. suitable for a particular dietary preference.

These descriptions do not necessarily mean that the product is suitable for someone with a medically diagnosed allergy. In particular, a product described as "gluten-free", "dairy-free" or similar should not automatically be assumed to be free from cross-contact with that allergen unless Kukori Pastry and Bakery expressly confirms this. If you have a serious allergy, please contact us before ordering.

10. Bespoke cakes and allergen requirements

If you are ordering a bespoke cake or other personalised product and have an allergy or dietary requirement, please tell us before we agree the order. We will assess the ingredients and preparation process and tell you whether we believe we can safely accommodate the request. We may decline a bespoke order where we cannot reasonably control the relevant allergen risk.

11. Decorations, toppings and additional components

Allergen information applies not only to the main cake or pastry but also to components such as:

1. fillings;
2. buttercream;
3. chocolate;
4. sprinkles;
5. toppings;
6. biscuits;
7. sauces;
8. decorations;
9. edible images; and
10. cake toppers where food ingredients are involved.

These components may contain allergens or have their own cross-contact warnings. Please ask us if you require allergen information about a particular decoration or additional component.

12. Customer-supplied ingredients or decorations

We generally do not recommend that customers provide ingredients for us to use in their products. If you provide a food ingredient, decoration or other edible item for inclusion in an order, you are responsible for providing accurate ingredient and allergen information. We may refuse to use customer-supplied items where we cannot establish their ingredients, allergen status or suitability.

13. What to do if you have a severe allergy

If you have a severe or potentially life-threatening food allergy, please contact us before placing your order.

Tell us:

1. which allergen(s) you need to avoid;
2. how severe the allergy is; and
3. whether there are any specific requirements we need to consider.

We will explain what we can and cannot safely provide. If we cannot adequately control the risk, we will tell you and may decline the order.

Please do not rely solely on a website product description when you have a severe allergy.

15. Important information

By ordering from Kukori, you acknowledge that our products are prepared in a small home kitchen where multiple allergens are handled.

We take reasonable steps to minimise cross-contact, but we cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment or that any product will be completely free from traces of allergens.

If you have a severe food allergy, please contact us before ordering so that we can assess whether we can safely provide the product. Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights or our obligations under applicable food-safety and consumer legislation.
